Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eberhard Jochem is a Research Fellow at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, part of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. He is internationally recognized for expertise in energy, material efficiency, and climate change, contributing to sustainable energy policy. Previously, he was a Full Professor of Economics and Energy Economics at ETH Zürich (1999–2007) and held leadership roles, including Deputy Director of Fraunhofer ISI (1983–1999) and Head of Systems Analysis (1978–1983). His career includes lecturing at Karlsruhe and Kassel Universities and research at Harvard University.
His research focuses on energy demand forecasts, rational energy use, technology foresight, and innovation economics. He co-founded the CEPE – Centre for Energy Policy and Economics at ETH Zürich and holds roles in organizations like the IPCC, SATW, and the Wuppertal Institute. Notable awards include the Bayer Climate Award (2009) and Germany’s Order of Merit (2001).
Jochem has authored over 200 publications, including books on climate-friendly energy strategies and energy-efficient technologies. He advises national and international bodies, such as Germany’s Sustainability Council and the Swiss Federal Agency for Energy.
