E. Troy Rasbury

E. Troy Rasbury is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Stony Brook University, where he has been a faculty member since 1999. He co-directs the Facility for Isotope Research and Student Training (FIRST), leveraging advanced instrumentation like laser ablation ICP-MS for geochronology. His research focuses on U-Pb dating of carbonates and fluorite, and boron isotope geochemistry to understand Earth's history and environmental processes. Rasbury holds a B.S. from Midwestern State University (1984), an M.S. from Tulane University (1990), and a Ph.D. from Stony Brook (1998).

Research interests include carbonate petrogenesis, chronostratigraphy, and the application of isotopes to paleoclimatic and tectonic studies. Key projects involve using boron isotopes to trace ocean chemistry changes and U-Pb dating to constrain sedimentary processes. Rasbury is also affiliated with the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II), where he employs X-ray techniques for mineral analysis.

Publications highlight breakthroughs in carbonate U-Pb dating methodologies, fluorite geochronology, and boron isotope applications in waters and plants. His work often integrates field studies with lab-based analyses, contributing to understanding paleoenvironments and crustal evolution.
