Dörte Nienstedt

Dörte Nienstedt serves as Lecturer in Recorder and Methodology/Didactics of Recorder at the University of the Arts Bremen since 1992, with additional part-time instruction at the Federal Academy Trossingen's recorder course since 2013. An active international performer, she specializes in contemporary music with over 50 premieres and chamber music across Europe and Asia.

Nienstedt's research centers on recorder pedagogy and performance practice. She develops structured teaching methodologies covering posture, breathing, articulation, and tone design for all proficiency levels, with specialized approaches for adult learners, seniors, and ensemble training. Her work integrates new music into educational frameworks while preserving historical performance techniques from the early music tradition.

She mentors award-winning students including Hannah Voß of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation. Project funding comes from DAAD, German Music Council, Goethe Institute, and Mariann Steegmann Foundation for international collaborations and educational initiatives.

Professional leadership includes Artistic Direction of the Recorder Days and 4th International Recorder Biennale, editorial work at moeck Verlag, and jury service for international competitions. Formerly President of the European Recorder Federation (2008-2011), she maintains active performance and educational outreach through radio/CD productions and global masterclasses.
