About
Dusty Ross is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at San Francisco State University (SFSU). He specializes in Algebraic Geometry with connections to Mathematical Physics, focusing on moduli spaces of curves, tropical varieties, and matroids. His research often incorporates combinatorial methods and theoretical physics perspectives.
Dr. Ross holds a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Northern Iowa (2003-2007), an M.S. and Ph.D. in Mathematics from Colorado State University (2007-2013), followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan (2013-2016). He has been at SFSU since 2016.
His professional work has been supported by NSF grants (DMS-2302024, DMS-2001439) and his postdoctoral fellowship. He actively contributes to academic communities by organizing the Algebra, Geometry, and Combinatorics Seminar at SFSU and serving on the WAGS Council for the Western Algebraic Geometry Symposium.
Committed to fostering inclusive learning environments, Ross advocates for Federico Ardila’s axioms emphasizing equitable access to mathematics and joyful, empowering educational experiences.
