Duncan Taylor

Dr. Duncan Taylor is an Associate Professor of Biology at Flinders University and holds a PhD in Biology (molecular genetics) and Diploma in Biostatistics. He serves as the Principal Scientist for Forensic Statistics at Forensic Science SA, specializing in DNA profiling, population genetics, and statistical evaluation of forensic evidence.

• Developed STRmix™, a probabilistic DNA interpretation software
• Contributed to the neural network component of FaSTR™ (DNA profile reading software)
• Supervises honours, master’s, and PhD students
• Over 90 peer-reviewed publications in forensic science, statistics, and machine learning

Research Focus: Duncan’s work bridges forensic DNA analysis with statistical modeling, applying machine learning and biostatistics to improve DNA evidence interpretation. His studies on DNA transfer dynamics and inter-laboratory variability have advanced forensic science methodologies.
