Duncan Goodwin

Duncan Goodwin is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Greenwich, affiliated with the School of Design within the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He holds multiple roles, including Academic Portfolio Lead for Landscape Architecture & Urbanism, Technical Coordinator, and Undergraduate Programme Leader for Landscape Architecture. Previously, he worked as an Associate Director at Capita Land Planning, managing large-scale design projects. His expertise spans horticulture, landscape contracting, and arboretum management, including a tenure as Head Gardener at the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens and Arboretum.

Education: Duncan earned a Masters in Public Garden Management from Cornell University (with support from the Edna Bailey Sussman Fund) and a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Greenwich. He also holds a background in Horticulture and Plantsmanship.

Research Focus: Urban tree establishment, green infrastructure planning, sustainable drainage systems, and urban ecology. His 2017 book The Urban Tree (Routledge) explores integrating trees into urban environments to maximize social, environmental, and economic benefits while addressing threats like urban development pressures.
