About
Duane Boning is the Clarence J. LeBel Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, where he serves as Associate Director of the Microsystems Technology Laboratories (MTL) and Engineering Faculty Co-Director of the Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) program. His research develops computational methods for semiconductor manufacturing and photonics design.
Research focuses on:
- Machine learning applications in nanoscale fabrication
- Variation-aware optimization of photonic devices
- Bayesian modeling for semiconductor process control
- Analog neural network hardware implementations
He recently led MIT's Machine Intelligence for Manufacturing & Operations (MIMO) initiative, creating industrial research partnerships. In 2024, he was appointed Vice Provost for International Activities to advance MIT's global research collaborations.
