Du Fei

Du Fei is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at the University of Oklahoma. His research focuses on early modern and modern South Asia, with a particular emphasis on gender, Islam, and global connections through economic and archival studies.

Research Interests:

• Gender and sexuality in South Asia
• Islamic law and its historical applications
• Material history and economic life
• History of knowledge and digital humanities

Fei’s work challenges patriarchal narratives by examining Muslim women’s economic agency in pre-colonial India. His 2024 article in Past & Present explores intersections of Islamic law, gendered archives, and transregional trade dynamics.
