Drew Marcantonio

Drew Marcantonio is an assistant professor of environment, peace, and global affairs with the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies in the Keough School of Global Affairs at the University of Notre Dame, with a concurrent appointment in the Business, Ethics, and Society Program at Mendoza College of Business. He became a Kellogg faculty fellow in 2023 and also holds faculty fellowships with the Environmental Change Initiative, the Lucy Institute for Data and Society, and the Deloitte Center for Ethical Leadership.

Marcantonio's research centers on regenerative and durable enterprise, environmental management and policy, environmental violence, peacebuilding, and Integral Human Ecology. He has conducted fieldwork across five continents working with diverse stakeholders including communities, elected officials, regulators, corporations, and NGOs. His scholarship examines the critical intersection between environmental factors and conflict, particularly how environmental stressors contribute to violence and how peacebuilding initiatives can incorporate environmental stewardship.

His recent publications span topics including the environmental dimensions of the Ukraine conflict, water-related conflicts in Africa, environmental diplomacy for peacebuilding, and the relationship between agricultural systems and poverty traps in Sierra Leone. Marcantonio's work demonstrates how environmental considerations must be integrated into peacebuilding efforts to create durable solutions.

As a US Marine combat veteran with multiple military honors, Marcantonio brings practical experience to his academic work. His background as a certified Wilderness First Responder and American Mountain Guide Association Climbing Instructor informs his experiential approach to leadership development and environmental education.
