Douglas Natelson is a Professor and former Department Chair in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Rice University, where he also serves as Associate Dean for Research. His research focuses on experimental condensed matter physics, nanotechnology, and plasmonics.
Research Interests: He investigates nanoelectronics, organic electronics, and strongly correlated materials, with recent work on plasmon-exciton coupling, shot noise in strange metals, and light emission mechanisms in aluminum plasmonic junctions.
Education:
- BSE in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (Princeton University, 1993)
- PhD in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics (Stanford University, 1998)
Scientific Awards:
- Hertz Fellowship
Prof. Natelson has courtesy appointments in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Materials Science and NanoEngineering at Rice. He has mentored numerous students and led the Rice Quantum Institute as a fellow.
