Dongyang Mi is a President's Doctoral Researcher and PhD Candidate at the University of Manchester (joint program with University of Melbourne). He serves as an associated researcher at the Urban Studies Lab (Susinfra) and Cottonopolis Collective, and Teaching Assistant/Academic Tutor at the School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED). He holds memberships in multiple research groups including the Society and Environment Research Group (SERG), Cities, Politics and Economies Research Group (CPEG), and Sustainable Consumption Institute (SCI) at Manchester, and Chinese Studies Research Group (CSRG) at Melbourne.
- Education: MA in City Design (Royal College of Art, 2020), dual BA/BEng in Environmental Design and Architecture (Huazhong University of Science & Technology, 2017).
His research focuses on sustainable transitions of cleanliness practices, water sanitation infrastructure, and urban governance in Global South cities. He leads the China Water Network initiative funded by Global Scholar Funds (2022-2025), fostering interdisciplinary collaborations in Chinese water research.
Prior roles include Research Assistant at Hunan University (2021-2022). His work addresses UN SDGs through urban political ecology frameworks, emphasizing equitable urban water systems and participatory governance models.
