About
Prof. Donghai Wang is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, leading the Energy Nanostructure (E-Nano) Laboratory. His research focuses on nanomaterial development for clean energy technologies, including batteries, solar cells, fuel cells, and environmental remediation. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Tulane University and M.S./B.S. degrees from Tsinghua University.
His teaching includes courses such as ME 300 (Thermodynamics), ME 406 (Statistical Thermodynamics), ME 403 (Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells), ME 597 (Materials for Energy Conversion/Storage), and ME 400 (Thermodynamics of Propulsion Systems). Students in his lab work on advanced battery technologies, nanomaterial synthesis, and device fabrication.
Research interests emphasize nanomaterials for energy storage (e.g., Li-S batteries, solid-state electrolytes), electrochemical properties of nanostructured materials, and environmental applications. Collaborations with sponsors like the Department of Energy and NSF support his work.
His group has pioneered studies on lithium metal anodes, sulfur cathode modifications, and interfacial chemistry. Activities include organizing academic events and outreach, like the "Science for Kids" project. Over 30 students/postdocs have contributed to his research, advancing clean energy innovations.
