Donald Sebastian

Donald Sebastian is a Professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering and holds a concurrent appointment at the New Jersey Innovation Institute at NJIT. His research focuses on graduate education reform, national innovation systems, polymer processing, and sustainable manufacturing. He has led major federal grants including the NSF-funded 'Physics of the Ionosphere and Magnetosphere' project (2005–2011) and the DHHS Office of the Secretary's Health IT initiative (2010–2016).

His work spans interdisciplinary collaborations, such as enhancing engineering education through financial sustainability models and advancing eco-friendly product lifecycle strategies. He has been recognized with the Thomas Edison Award for innovative combustible cartridge casing design. His research outputs emphasize bridging academic-industry gaps and developing frameworks for integrated product-process development.

Dr. Sebastian’s contributions include over 50 publications and 12 media highlights, notably federal funding announcements for New Jersey’s manufacturing initiatives. His projects address critical areas like sustainable manufacturing, concurrent engineering, and materials science innovations.
