Don Jackson

Don Jackson is a Professor in the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on aquatic ecosystem dynamics, particularly the structure and composition of fish and benthic invertebrate communities in lakes and streams.

His work examines how lake morphology (depth, thermal and oxygen conditions), water chemistry (e.g., acidification), and biotic interactions (predation) influence species distribution and extinction patterns. A key aspect of his research involves statistical ecology, with emphasis on multivariate analysis to model community-environment relationships.

Current lab members include Dale Pebesma (PhD, urbanization impacts on invertebrates) and Gloria Wang (MSc, stormwater pond effects on fish species). His studies also extend to crayfish population structure and spatial movements.
