Don Diemer

Don Diemer, DHS, PA-C, serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Physician Associate Medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Previously Director of the Physician Assistant (PA) program for 15 years and Associate Director at Texas Tech University PA program, he also served 23 years on active duty in the United States Air Force (1983-2006).

His educational background includes:

• Bachelor of Science in Education from SIU Carbondale
• Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from University of Nebraska
• Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from University of Nebraska
• Doctor of Health Science from A.T. Still University

Dr. Diemer's professional focus spans Physician Assistant education, Health Science curriculum development, and Medical Education leadership. His career integrates military medical experience with academic administration, emphasizing program growth and student development in physician training.

As long-term program leader, he has overseen graduation ceremonies, new student orientations, and professional conferences including the Illinois Academy of Physician Assistants events. Recent program milestones under his leadership include 2023-2024 graduate celebrations and conference participations highlighting SIU's PA achievements.
