Don Barnes is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Aeronautical Engineering Technology at Purdue University's School of Aviation and Transportation Technology. He teaches aircraft electrical systems, avionics, and aviation maintenance practices while integrating hands-on projects with industry leaders like Lockheed-Martin and Standard Aero.
- United States Navy veteran (1986–2006) with flight engineer experience on E-6A/B Mercury aircraft
- Over 35 years of aviation industry expertise, including avionics technician roles for Beechcraft/Cessna/Hawker
- Faculty advisor for Purdue Beta Chapter of Alpha Eta Rho (AHP), Purdue Airsoft Club, and men's ice hockey team
Education:
- BS in Aviation Maintenance Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
- MS in Technology, Leadership and Innovation from Purdue University
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certifications
His research focuses on all-electric aircraft and modernizing aviation maintenance practices through technology integration. He collaborates with aerospace companies to develop student-led prototypes presented directly to industry leaders.
