Max Planck Institute for Sustainable MaterialsAbout
Dr. Dominique Chatain is a Senior Researcher at the Centre Interdisciplinaire de Nanosciences de Marseille (CINaM), affiliated with Aix-Marseille University and CNRS. His work focuses on interfaces in materials, hetero-epitaxy, and microstructural analysis of complex alloys. He holds a PhD in Physics (1983) and an Engineer’s Degree in Metallurgy (1979) from Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble.
Research Interests: Dr. Chatain’s research merges experimental methods (EBSD, HRTEM), atomistic simulations, and thermodynamic modeling to study interfaces in metallic and oxide systems. Key areas include orientation relationships in thin films, microstructure control via substrate engineering, and the role of surface/interfacial complexions in multinary alloys.
Awards:
- Von Humboldt Fellowship (2020)
- American Ceramic Society Fellowship (2018)
- Silver Medal of CNRS (2010)
Labs/Teams: He is part of the CINaM-UMR 7325, a CNRS unit dedicated to nanosciences, interfaces, and advanced materials research.
