Doc Collins is a Professor of Biology and Chemistry and currently serves as Department Chair for Science and EMS at Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU), where he has worked for 23 years. He holds a BS in Biology (1990) from Panhandle State, an MS in Entomology (1993) and a PhD in Entomology (1996) from Oklahoma State University. During his tenure at OPSU, he earned additional certifications including an Associate in Technology for Emergency Medical Services (2013) and Fire Protection & Safety Training (2015). These credentials enable him to serve as a firefighter with the Goodwell Fire Department, a paramedic for Goodwell and Guymon EMS, and a HazMat Technician for Oklahoma Region I.
His research interests center on Entomology, particularly Insect Fungal/Viral Diseases and Insect Pheromone Chemistry. Beyond academia, he enjoys woodworking, remodeling, welding, truck mechanics, and guitar. Married to Rilla for 31 years, they have two sons who also graduated from OPSU. He actively participates in his family’s multigenerational life, including time with his granddaughter Magnolia.
