Oklahoma State UniversityAbout
Dr. Do Young Kim is an Assistant Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Oklahoma State University. His expertise lies in organic and inorganic electronic devices, including OLEDs, photovoltaic cells, and photodetectors. He holds a PhD from the University of Florida (2009), and B.S./M.S. in Physics from Kyung Hee University (South Korea). Prior to OSU, he was a Research Scientist/Postdoc at the University of Florida (2009–2015) and a research scientist at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (2002–2006). He co-founded NIRVision and nVerPix LLC based on his organic/inorganic nanomaterial technologies.
- Education:
- Ph.D., Materials Science & Engineering, University of Florida, 2009
- M.S., Physics, Kyung Hee University, 2002
- B.S., Physics, Kyung Hee University, 1999
His research focuses on colloidal nanomaterials, organic semiconductors, and their applications in optoelectronics, energy, and bio systems. Key achievements include inventing low-cost infrared-sensitive OLED technology and developing flexible OLED display substrates. He has 35 publications, 17 patents, and 74 conference presentations.
Dr. Kim’s work bridges materials synthesis and device engineering. Recent trends in his publications emphasize perovskite solar cells, lead-free LEDs, and radiation-resistant materials. His interdisciplinary approach integrates nanotechnology with sustainable energy solutions and biomedical applications.
- Awards & Patents: 17 issued patents (e.g., infrared photodetector designs) and 19 patent applications pending.
- Advising & Industry: Advises two startups (NIRVision, nVerPix) and collaborates on BIM (Building Information Modeling) systems for smart design integration.
His lab focuses on scalable nanomaterial fabrication and high-performance optoelectronic devices. Current projects include PbS nanocrystal photodetectors, perovskite-based photovoltaics, and energy-efficient upconversion systems.
