Dmytro Vovk is a Visiting Professor of Law at Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University, temporarily relocated from Ukraine due to the Russian invasion. He holds a primary affiliation with Yaroslav Muddy National Law University in Ukraine, where he leads the Center for the Rule of Law and Religion Studies. His expertise spans rule of law, church-state relations, and comparative constitutional law, with a focus on post-Soviet legal systems and religious freedom.
He has held visiting roles at Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, Northwestern University’s Buffett Institute, and affiliations with the University of Queensland’s Law and Religion in Asia-Pacific Program. His international engagements include advising the UN, OSCE, EU, and USAID on religious freedom and constitutional law matters.
Research interests include legal frameworks for religious minorities, counteracting domestic violence via religious contributions, and gender dimensions of freedom of religion. His work has informed policy briefs for Ukraine’s constitutional and supreme courts, OSCE/ODIHR, and the Venice Commission.
As an OSCE/ODIHR Expert Panel member since 2019, he coordinates gender-related FoRB initiatives. His publications include the co-edited Routledge volume on religion in the Ukrainian conflict, praised for its analysis of Eastern Ukraine’s legal and socio-political dynamics.
