Dirk Lund Christensen is an Associate Professor in Global Health at the Global Health Section, Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen. He holds an MSc in Human Physiology and a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Copenhagen, with additional affiliation to Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen.
His research focuses on cardio-metabolic diseases—diabetes, hypertension, cardiomyopathy, and obesity—across global populations, examining risk factors such as physical activity, nutrition, fetal programming, and infectious diseases. He has collaborated extensively with the MRC in Cambridge, UK, and contributed to studies using objectively measured physical activity data from Africa, India, and Mexico, including work on aerobic fitness and health via the UK Biobank.
He currently serves as Principal Investigator (PI) for ongoing studies in Tanzania and Mexico, emphasizing long-term international collaborations. His work spans clinical epidemiology, health promotion, and interdisciplinary global health research.
