Dipesh Vasant

Dr. Dipesh Vasant is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester, affiliated with the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology & Gastroenterology. He holds external roles as an Associate Editor for BMJ Open Gastroenterology and as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. His research focuses on gastrointestinal disorders, particularly faecal incontinence, irritable bowel syndrome, and the application of hypnotherapy and neurostimulation therapies.

Education: He completed a PhD in 2015 titled "TRANSLATIONAL STUDIES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEUROSTIMULATION BASED INTERVENTIONS FOR REHABILITATION OF DYSPHAGIA AFTER STROKE", supervised by Professor S. Hamdy.

Research Interests: His work spans anorectal physiology, gut-brain interactions, and improving healthcare access for gastrointestinal disorders. Key areas include provocative tests for anal sphincter function, symptom-based subtyping of faecal incontinence, and optimizing hypnotherapy delivery for refractory IBS.

Awards: He has received notable recognitions including the British Society of Gastroenterology Out of Programme Award (2016), Core/Dr Falk SpR Audit Award (2018), and the Roy M. Dorcus Award for Best Paper in Clinical Hypnosis (2024).

Grants & Collaborations: His research has explored clinical priorities for faecal incontinence (James Lind Alliance partnership) and telehealth innovations in hypnotherapy delivery. He collaborates internationally on anorectal physiology studies and dysmotility management.
