Dipesh Gopal

Dr Dipesh Gopal is a General Practitioner and NIHR-funded researcher at Queen Mary University of London's Wolfson Institute of Population Health, affiliated with the Centre for Primary Care. As a Research Fellow, his work focuses on cancer survivorship, health inequalities, and ethnic minority health. He holds a Master’s in Clinical Health Research from the University of Birmingham and has contributed to major studies including the £2.7M SURECAN programme and the HI-COVE study examining Long COVID in ethnic minorities. His research employs mixed-methods approaches, including systematic reviews and qualitative analysis.

Dr Gopal has held prestigious fellowships including the NIHR In-Practice Fellowship and NIHR Primary Care Clinicians Career Progression Fellowship. He currently serves on the Primary Academic CollaboraTive (PACT) committee promoting grassroots primary care research. His academic leadership roles include organizing the Health Education England London GP trainee conference (2017-2018) and delivering keynote addresses on race and medicine at international conferences.

His research interests emphasize improving care for cancer survivors through primary care interventions like cancer care reviews, while addressing systemic inequities. Over 15 peer-reviewed publications demonstrate his contributions to understanding multimorbidity in cancer patients, Long COVID disparities, and structural racism in healthcare. He has secured research grants totaling over £2.7 million and actively advocates for culturally safe healthcare practices through reflexive methodologies.
