Professor Dimitris Christelis is a Professor of Economics at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow, where he has been since August 2019. Previously, he held academic positions at the University of Salerno, University of Naples Federico II, and the European Central Bank. He holds an undergraduate degree from the Athens University of Economics and Business and a PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
His research focuses on empirical macroeconomics, household finance, microeconometrics, the economics of ageing, and health economics. Notable contributions include studies on wealth shocks, portfolio choice, inflation expectations, and the long-term effects of early-life conditions on financial behavior.
Christelis has received grants from the European Union, Greek Ministry of Education, Kauffman Foundation, Australian Research Council, and others. He actively supervises PhD students in empirical macroeconomics, household finance, and related fields. His teaching includes postgraduate microeconometrics, international finance, and undergraduate courses in macroeconomics and econometrics.
His work often explores cross-country differences in financial behavior, the impact of health insurance on investment decisions, and the role of social activities in preserving cognitive health among the elderly. Recent publications address asymmetric consumption responses to income shocks and the enduring effects of traumatic life events on financial risk-taking.
