Dimitris A. Tsouknidis

Dimitris A. Tsouknidis is an Associate Professor of Shipping Finance at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), within the Department of Accounting and Finance, School of Business. In addition to his faculty role, he serves as the Director of the MSc in International Shipping, Finance, and Management at AUEB, where he shapes the next generation of maritime finance professionals.

His educational background spans three countries and four degrees: a BSc in Economics from the University of Thessaly (Greece), an MSc in Computational Finance from the University of Essex (UK), an MBA, and a PhD in Finance from AUEB itself.

Research Interests

• Shipping Finance & Maritime Economics: investigating capital structure, investment appraisal, and financial risk in the global shipping industry.
• Energy & Transportation Economics: modelling the interplay between energy price volatility and freight markets.
• Derivatives & Risk Management: developing hedging strategies using freight derivatives and other financial instruments.

He has published more than 35 peer-reviewed studies in leading journals such as the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society: Series A, Energy Economics, Transportation Research Part E, Journal of International Money and Finance, European Journal of Finance, and Maritime Policy and Management, among others. His work has been cited extensively, reflecting its impact on both academia and industry.
