Dimitri M Gangardt
Associate Professor · Ultra-cold atomic physics
University of BirminghamAbout
Dr Dimitri M Gangardt is a Reader in Theoretical Physics at the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Birmingham. His research focuses on ultra-cold atomic physics, condensed matter physics, and superfluidity in low-dimensional systems. He obtained his PhD in Physics from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in 2002, followed by postdoctoral work at institutions including the Kastler-Brossel laboratory in Paris and the LPTMS in Orsay. He was awarded an EPSRC Advanced Fellowship in 2006, leading to his appointment at the University of Birmingham.
His research interests include transport of ultra-cold atoms on a chip, superfluidity in one dimension, and impurity dynamics in quantum systems. He organizes the Theory Group Seminar and supervises PhD students in theoretical physics.
Dr Gangardt’s work spans ultra-cold atoms, solitons, and mobile impurity dynamics in 1D systems. His contributions include studies on dark solitons, Bloch oscillations in spinor gases, and correlations in expanding Bose gases.
