About
Dillon P Cogan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Southern California. His research focuses on microbial protein systems, particularly in bio synthesis and bio sensing, with an emphasis on understanding enzymatic mechanisms in natural product biosynthesis and developing protein-based solutions for medical and environmental challenges. The Cogan Lab investigates polyketide synthases, enzyme communication in assembly-line systems, and molecular targeting of biological pathways.
His research interests include structural biology of enzymes involved in antibiotic production, enzymatic catalysis mechanisms, and the application of antibody probes to study protein conformational changes. Recent work has addressed intermodular communication in polyketide biosynthesis, molecular targeting of cardiac conduction systems, and the structural basis of antibiotic resistance mechanisms.
Dr. Cogan's publications span structural biology, enzymology, and drug discovery, with a particular focus on polyketide synthases and their roles in producing bioactive compounds. He collaborates on projects involving protein engineering, molecular imaging, and the design of novel therapeutic agents.
