Dr Dianne Rodger is a Senior Lecturer in Anthropology at the University of Adelaide, affiliated with the School of Social Sciences within the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics. Her research focuses on Hip-Hop culture, youth culture, digital media, and health communication, with a particular emphasis on qualitative and ethnographic methodologies. She holds a PhD from the University of Adelaide (2012), titled 'Living Hip Hop: Defining Authenticity in the Adelaide and Melbourne Hip Hop Scenes.'
Her research contributions include studies on global-local dynamics in Hip-Hop, Indigenous Australian Hip-Hop artists' use of social media, and the socio-cultural impacts of technology. Notable projects include evaluations of Hip-Hop workshops for First Nations youth, the Health-e Baby smartphone app for pregnant women, and analyses of communication strategies in fragile states. She has authored a book on the Hilltop Hoods' album 'The Calling' (2023) and is co-editing an upcoming volume on Hip-Hop Cultures in Australia.
Rodger has received the Faculty of Arts Prize for Excellence in Teaching (2018) and has held roles such as Scholarly Teaching Fellow (2016–2018) and Undergraduate Advisor for Anthropology. Her teaching includes courses on anthropology and popular culture, emphasizing applied and innovative pedagogical approaches.
