Diane Styers is an Associate Professor of Remote Sensing in the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resources at Western Carolina University's College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD in Forest Ecology from Auburn University and completed postdoctoral research in Remote Sensing and Geospatial Analysis at the University of Washington. Her research employs remote sensing and geospatial techniques to analyze socio-ecological processes driving landscape changes.
Styers specializes in LiDAR analysis, object-based image analysis (OBIA), MODIS/Landsat phenology, multi-sensor integration, and public participatory GIS (PPGIS). Her current work focuses on community-engaged research for climate adaptation and resilience. She teaches courses including Environmental Geography, Remote Sensing, GIS for Natural Resource Management, and Geospatial Science Applications.
Recent publications appear in Southeastern Naturalist, Ecology and Evolution, and Environmental Health Insights, covering topics like Tsuga caroliniana communities, NEON educational applications, and mosquito ecology.
