Dr. Devran Gulel is a Research Fellow at the Faculty of Business & Law, University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the Centre for Innovative and Sustainable Finance. She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Portsmouth (2017–2021), an MA in European Studies from the University of Hamburg, and served as a Jean Monnet Fellow at Lund University (2015–2017). Her roles include convener of the University of Portsmouth Research Staff Forum and membership in committees like the AEGIS Centre’s Executive Committee and the UK HR Excellence in Research Panel.
Her research focuses on gender politics, welfare states, women’s labor participation, and human rights in authoritarian contexts. She leads the RE-WIRING EU Horizon Project on gender inclusion and empowerment. Teaching expertise spans EU law, comparative politics, global feminism, and qualitative methods.
Recent work includes articles on Global South scholars’ challenges, visa inequities in academia, and gendered power hierarchies. Awards include multiple Best Presentation Awards and a Best Research Image award. She actively collaborates with institutions across Europe and engages in media discussions on gender equality and human rights.
