About
Dr. Devdutta Deb is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Mercy University's Department of Natural Sciences, affiliated with the School of Health and Natural Sciences. She serves as Pre-med advisor, faculty in-charge of the Mercy University Greenhouse, and advisor for the Environmental Alliance group. She also mentors in the NSF STEM program and holds roles in university committees. Her research focuses on plant pathogen effector proteins, particularly their roles in immune suppression and hormonal pathways in host plants.
Teaching responsibilities include courses like Pathways in Biology, Microbiology, and Biology Research. She coordinates labs for General Biology and Microbiology courses. Dr. Deb has been recognized as an HHMI-IE Fellow and holds membership in the Tri-Beta Honors Society. Her work bridges molecular biology, bioinformatics, and plant pathology, aiming to uncover mechanisms behind pathogen virulence.
Selected publications highlight contributions to RXLR effector research, hormone crosstalk in immunity suppression, and alignment-free bioinformatics methods. Her collaborations span computational tools like PlantSimLab and experimental studies on oomycete pathogen biology.
