About
Desley White is a Lecturer in Dietetics at the University of Plymouth's School of Health Professions (Faculty of Health). She serves as Programme Lead for the MSc Human Nutrition, Year 1 Dietetics Lead, and Module Lead for Year 3 honours Project Studies II, Year 2 Dietetics and Pharmacology, and Year 1 Nutritional Epidemiology. She also contributes to bioscience and quantitative methods across the Dietetics programme, teaches on the Human Nutrition MSc, and delivers general nutrition lectures to other health professions students.
Her teaching focuses on quantitative research methods, epidemiological statistics (e.g., frequency measures, odds/risk concepts), and Evidence-Based Practice. She emphasizes statistical analysis tools like Excel and SPSS, and contextualizes these skills through case studies such as the Mediterranean diet research and the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES). Additionally, she designs 'Dietetics in a Nutshell' lectures for non-Dietetics health professions students, equipping them with foundational dietetic knowledge and resource pathways.
