Desley Whisson is an Associate Professor in Deakin University's School of Life and Environmental Sciences, with 30+ years of research experience across Australia, Mexico, and the USA. She holds a PhD from Queensland University of Technology and specializes in terrestrial wildlife ecology.
Her research develops practical solutions for conservation challenges, focusing on koala ecology, spatial behavior of arboreal species, and bioacoustic monitoring. Current projects investigate koala population dynamics, Yellow-bellied Glider responses to disturbance, and Broad-toothed Rat conservation.
She coordinates the Life and Environmental Sciences Honours program and teaches Geographic Information Systems. Awards include the Earthwatch Environmental Science Excellence Award (2016) and Deakin Teaching Excellence Team Award (2017).
