Derek Straub

Derek Straub is an Associate Professor of Earth & Environmental Sciences at Susquehanna University. He holds a PhD and MS from Colorado State University and a BS from Marquette University. His research focuses on atmospheric processes involving air pollutants' emission, transformation, measurement, and removal, with emphasis on rain, fog, dew, particles, and gases. He actively involves students in hands-on projects building custom instrumentation and field experiments.

His energy-related work addresses sustainable energy development and consumption patterns, reflected in two specialized courses he teaches. Straub's approach emphasizes creative problem-solving through engineering and scientific inquiry, fostering student engagement in real-world environmental challenges.
