About
Dr. Derek Molliver is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is also Director of the Center for Cell Signaling Research and holds a joint affiliation with the Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering at the University of Maine.
- PhD in Neuroscience, Washington University in St. Louis (1997)
- BA in Biology, Williams College (1988)
His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of pain, particularly neurotrophic factor signaling, GPCR pathways, and mitochondrial stress responses in nociceptors. The lab investigates protein interactions, immune-neuron communication, and translational regulation using biochemical, imaging, and behavioral assays.
Current NIH R01-funded projects examine:
- GPCR signaling networks in pain persistence
- Mitochondrial stress response dynamics
- Neuroimmune interactions in sensory neurons
Grants include:
- 1R01NS109936-01A1 ($463,248, 2019-2023)
- NIGMS Grant ($278,500, 2013-2017)
