Derek Helwig

Derek Helwig is a Lecturer at the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University. He holds an M.A. from King’s College London and a BFA from Chapman’s Dodge College, where he also serves as an active alumnus spearheading the Chapman Unscripted Alumni initiative.

Helwig is a seasoned producer with over 12 seasons of the Emmy-winning The Amazing Race (CBS) and credits such as United Shades of America (CNN), The Great British Baking Show (CBS), and the Discovery+ series Table Wars starring Martha Stewart. His expertise spans unscripted television, documentaries, and global media production.

He has produced documentary features including Kenyatta: Do Not Wait Your Turn (Amazon Prime Video) and the Emmy-nominated Angel Dose (PBS), with two upcoming documentaries in collaboration with renowned directors Alex Gibney and Ondi Timoner.
