Derek Conrod

Derek Conrod is a Visiting Professor of Natural Horn at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. He holds additional teaching roles at the University of Western Ontario and Wilfrid Laurier University. His affiliations include the National Ballet Orchestra (Toronto), Music in Common, and the Stratford Festival Orchestra, with a 30-year tenure with Tafelmusik, a renowned period orchestra.

Conrod specializes in historical horns and has performed on over 30 recordings with ensembles like Tafelmusik, American Bach Soloists, and Apollo’s Fire. He has soloed at prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center and Orchestra Hall in Chicago. His expertise extends to music consultancy, notably for the Stratford Festival’s 1995 production of Amadeus.

His research and performances focus on period instruments and Baroque music traditions, blending academic instruction with professional orchestral experience.
