Derek Clewley

Derek Clewley serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University and Associate Director of the Duke Center of Excellence in Manual and Manipulative Therapy. A clinician-scientist with over two decades of experience, he has pioneered innovative residency and fellowship programs that bridge academic research with clinical physical therapy practice since entering academia in 2016.

His research program critically examines manual therapy techniques through the lenses of implementation science and health services research, with dedicated focus on professional development frameworks for clinicians. This work directly advances evidence-based orthopaedic physical therapy and improves musculoskeletal care delivery systems.
