
About
Denys Bondar is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics & Engineering Physics within Tulane University's School of Science & Engineering. He joined Tulane in 2018 after serving as an Associate Research Scholar and Lecturer at Princeton University since 2014, following a postdoctoral appointment at Princeton's Department of Chemistry. His research bridges quantum technology and ultrafast nonlinear optics, focusing on quantum control, optical analogs of quantum phenomena, and hybrid quantum-classical systems.
Prof. Bondar earned his PhD in Physics from the University of Waterloo (2011) and an MSc with Honors from Uzhhorod National University, Ukraine (2006). His group's work has been featured in Quantamagazine, Nature Materials, PhysicsWorld, and other prominent outlets.
- Research Interests: Controlling material properties via laser fields, high-performance computing using nonlinear optics, quantum reservoir engineering, quantum-classical analogies, hybrid systems theory, and superoscillations for enhanced sensing.
- Scientific Awards: W. M. Keck Foundation Award (2021), James MacLaren Early Career Professorship (2021), DARPA Young Faculty Award (2019), Humboldt Research Fellowship (2017), Air Force YIP (2016), and others.
- Advising: Mentors postdocs (Gerard McCaul, Ravikiran Saripalli) and graduate/undergraduate students (Jacob Leamer, Wenlei Zhang, Jacob Masur, etc.).
- Labs & Collaborations: Leads the Tulane Quantum Dynamics Group, co-organizing conferences like the "Koopman Methods in Classical and Classical-Quantum Mechanics" (2021), and develops open-source tools for quantum-classical simulations.
