About
Dennis Lettenmaier is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of California, Los Angeles, affiliated with the College of Letters and Science. His research focuses on hydrologic modeling and prediction, hydrology-climate interactions, and hydrologic change, with extensive contributions to understanding climate variability and polar systems.
Dr. Lettenmaier holds a Ph.D. from the University of Washington (1975) and has published over 300 journal articles. His research spans hydrologic modeling, climate interactions, Antarctic sea ice dynamics, and global climate change impacts. Recent publications analyze structural changes in Antarctic sea ice systems and satellite-based assessments of polar environments.
His scientific awards and honors include:
- Fellow, American Geophysical Union (1995)
- Fellow, American Meteorological Society (1998)
- Hydrologic Sciences Award, American Geophysical Union (2000)
- National Academy of Engineering Member (2010)
- Walter Orr Roberts Lecturer (2005)
- Robert E. Horton Lecturer (2008)
