Denis Robichaud

Denis Robichaud serves as Associate Professor in the Program of Liberal Studies at the University of Notre Dame, holding concurrent appointments in the Department of Philosophy, Medieval Institute, Romance Languages and Literatures, and Italian Studies. He directs the Physis Office (320C O'Shaughnessy Hall) and contributes to the Workshop on Ancient Philosophy and History of Philosophy Forum as committee member.

Specializing in the long history of Platonism (270-1499 CE), Robichaud's research bridges late ancient, medieval, and Renaissance philosophy with particular focus on intersections between Platonism and religious traditions. His methodological approach integrates philological analysis, paleography, and manuscript studies of Latin and Greek texts, examining humanist commentary practices and textual transmission.

His scholarship centers on Marsilio Ficino's Platonic reception, culminating in the monograph Plato's Persona: Marsilio Ficino, Renaissance Humanism, and Platonic Traditions (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2018). Current projects include critical editions of Ficino's translations of Iamblichus's De Secta Pythagorica and Theon of Smyrna's Mathematica, plus studies of Pico della Mirandola's De ente et uno and Thomas Aquinas's philosophy.
