Deirdre Flynn

Dr. Deirdre Flynn is a Lecturer in 21st Century Literature at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) in Limerick, Ireland. She holds positions as Programme Coordinator for the BA in Drama and English and the MA in Modern English Literature. Her research focuses on contemporary Irish literature, migration narratives, and the intersection of austerity with cultural production. She is Executive Member of the Young Academy of Ireland and Secretary of IASIL (International Association for the Study of Irish Literatures), demonstrating her leadership in academic networks.

Her work critically examines themes of precarity, urban space, and gender in literature. Recent publications include The Routledge Handbook of Motherhood on Screen (2025) and Austerity and Irish Women’s Writing and Culture (2022). She has been recognized with a Teaching Excellence Award (2018).

Dr. Flynn’s research projects include investigations into post-2004 citizenship referenda impacts and the representation of migrants in Irish literature. She actively engages in public humanities through talks and media commentary on academia’s challenges and climate fiction.
