Dr. Decker Hains is the Chair and Master Faculty Specialist of Management at the Haworth College of Business, Western Michigan University. He holds a Ph.D. from Lehigh University, and master's degrees from the University of Missouri-Rolla, University of Alaska Anchorage, and a B.S. from the United States Military Academy. He is a Professional Engineer (State of Michigan) and a Project Management Professional (PMI).
His research and teaching focus on Leadership, Management Science, and Project Management. He has published extensively on leadership and the civil engineering profession.
Prior to academia, Hains served 22 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. His military roles included Deputy Commander of the Walla Walla District (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers), Chief of a Military Transition Team in Baghdad, and Assistant Professor at West Point. He received numerous military honors including the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal.
Hains has contributed to interdisciplinary efforts, including redesigning WMU’s Essential Studies Program. He holds certifications as a Professional Engineer and Project Management Professional.
