Debra Hawhee is the McCourtney Professor of Civic Deliberation and Professor of English at Penn State University. She holds additional appointments in Communication Arts and Sciences and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Her research explores histories and theories of rhetoric, focusing on bodily and material dimensions, climate rhetoric, and nonrational persuasive practices. She has authored influential books such as *A Sense of Urgency* (2023), *Rhetoric in Tooth and Claw* (2019), and *Moving Bodies* (2009), recognized with awards including the RSA Book Award and NCA’s Diamond Anniversary Award.
