Dr. Deborah Madden is a Lecturer in Hispanic Studies at Lancaster University's School of Global Affairs within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS). She specializes in Iberian feminisms, women’s writing, collective memory, and medical humanities, with a focus on the intersections of sex, culture, and political history in modern Spain.
Her research examines topics such as sexual violence narratives, post-Francoist Spain’s cultural legacy, and hunger discourses in (post-)Civil War contexts. Key projects include a Leverhulme Trust-funded fellowship at Complutense University of Madrid (2020–2022) and collaboration on the transnational 'Heritages of Hunger' project (Radboud University, 2020–2025). She holds fellowships from the Higher Education Academy and the Royal Historical Society.
