Dr. Deborah Loomer serves as Adjunct Faculty at Winthrop University's Conservatory of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts. She holds a D.M.A. in Clarinet Performance from SUNY Stony Brook, an M.M. from Miami University, and a B.M. in Music Education. Her teaching responsibilities include applied clarinet, Clarinet Choir direction, Woodwind Quintet coaching, and specialized courses in Woodwind Methods and Clarinet Literature.
Her research focuses on clarinet performance techniques, woodwind ensemble development, and pedagogical methods for injury prevention. She emphasizes training students to become both skilled performers and educators, incorporating Qi Gong practices to address repetitive motion injuries.
As an active performer, Dr. Loomer served as principal clarinetist for the Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra for 17 seasons and performs with the Carolinas Wind Orchestra, Border Wind Quintet, and Border Trio. She maintains professional memberships in the International Clarinet Association, MTNA, and SCMEA.
