Deborah E. Rupp is a Professor of Industrial-Organizational Psychology at George Mason University (GMU), having joined in Fall 2019. Prior to this, she was a Professor and William C. Byham Chair in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at Purdue University and an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has also held Visiting Professorships at Singapore Management University, University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, and Illinois Institute of Technology.
Education: PhD (2002) from Colorado State University.
Research interests include employment discrimination (e.g., adverse impact, pay equity), corporate social responsibility (CSR) and its influence on employee engagement, organizational justice theory, emotional labor in service roles, and inclusive assessment practices. She has published seven books, including *The Oxford Handbook of Corporate Social Responsibility: Psychological and Organizational Perspectives* (2019), and over 140 articles. Her work frequently appears in journals like *Journal of Applied Psychology* and *Nature Human Behavior*.
Rupp has been honored as a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Association for Psychological Science (APS), and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP). She also co-authored a book that won the Academy of Management’s Organizations and The Natural Environments Division’s Book Award in 2013. Her 2016 collaboration with Niti Pandey and others earned the OBM Network Innovative Research Award.
In advising and grants, she has mentored over 20 students, including current PhD advisees like Jessie Cannon and Natalia Felicelli, and alumni such as Nicole Strah and Akwasi Opoku-Dakwa. Her grants span NSF-funded projects on technology transfer ethics and CSR, a Virginia Department of Corrections grant for correctional officer assessment, and a George Mason University initiative on anti-racism mentoring.
Her RuppLab at GMU is a hub for interdisciplinary research on equity, inclusion, and justice in organizational systems. Previous collaborations include founding the RuppDACLab at UIUC, emphasizing personnel selection and development methodologies. She actively contributes to editorial boards and global policy initiatives through SIOP’s UN engagement.
