Debby Singleton

Debby Singleton is an Instructor in the Department of Parks and Recreation Management at Western Carolina University (WCU), part of the College of Education and Allied Professions. She holds an MA in Physical Education: Exercise Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BS in Health & Physical Education: K-12 from Longwood University. Her teaching focuses on diverse courses ranging from recreation management principles to experiential activities like Stand Up Paddling and Entrepreneurship in Commercial Recreation.

Her research interests emphasize enhancing community access to outdoor recreation and physical activity, including initiatives like school-based wellness programs and youth outdoor engagement. Debby has delivered over 40 presentations at regional, state, and national conferences on topics such as experiential education and physical activity integration. She is a recognized educator-leader, having received multiple awards for teaching excellence and community engagement. Her professional background includes roles in the ski industry, fitness direction, and outdoor recreation consulting.
