Debbie Macpherson

Dr. Debbie Macpherson holds dual roles as Senior Technical Officer in the Multipurpose Teaching Facility (College of Medicine and Public Health) and Casual Academic in the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University. She is an education-focused academic specializing in microbiology and molecular biosciences, with a strong emphasis on laboratory teaching innovation and student engagement.

Education: B.Sc. (Hons) in Biological Sciences (Flinders University, 1988), PhD in Microbiology and Immunology (University of Adelaide, 1995), and postdoctoral training at the University of Guelph, Canada. She returned to Flinders' School of Biological Sciences in 2006.

Research interests include microbiology, molecular biology, and pedagogy in higher education. She leads teaching programs for the College of Science and Engineering, including demonstrator training, curriculum coordination, and workshops on the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching. Active in Students as Partners initiatives, she supports academics in delivering effective teaching practices and advancing blended learning methodologies.

Teaching responsibilities include coordinating courses such as BIOL2771 Biochemistry (Prac Coord), BIOL2772 Molecular Biology, and BIOL3761 Foundations in Microbiology. Her work bridges scientific research and educational innovation, fostering student-centered learning environments.
