Debbie French

Debbie French is a Lecturer in Social Care and Social Work at Manchester Metropolitan University and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. As a registered social worker (SW90285), she brings extensive practical experience from roles in child protection teams across Manchester and Bury, and specialized adoption work with Tameside MBC and Adoption Now Regional Adoption Agency.

French teaches across multiple social work programs including the BA in Social Work, Degree Apprenticeship, and Post Graduate Diploma (Step Up). Her curriculum covers child development theories, impacts of abuse and neglect, anti-discriminatory practice, and adoption regulations/procedures. She incorporates specialized training in therapeutic parenting, adult attachment, and transracial adoption into her pedagogical approach. French maintains current practice insights through her ongoing role as an independent panel member for adoption assessments.
